TORTURE GARDEN
Bored with London’s existing retro alternative clubs and suburban style fetish clubs, Alan Pelling and David Wood formed Torture Garden in October 1990 with the design to create a new kind of radical alternative fetish club that combined progressive music, multiple environments, fashion, performance, visuals, installations, market area and more. They named the club Torture Garden after the turn of the century novel by Octave Mirbeau, which was set in a Chinese Garden of Torture and developed a unique crowd that combined the Alternative post Goth / Industrial, hard-core SM, Fetish Fashion and Gay & Straight scenes, with the totally new Body Art / Piercing scenes. There was no other club in the world like it! Today, Torture Garden is the worlds largest Fetish Club, attracting 800 - 2600 people monthly to various venues throughout London. TG has also grown to become one of the top Latex Fetish Fashion Labels and an International Production / Performance Agency. |

GEN & THE SOCIETY OF GENITORTURE
Originating in Orlando Florida, Gen gave birth to the concept of Genitorturers while in college studying pre-med. The Genitorturers cut their teeth, honing their music and live show in the early 90's Florida "Hardcore" music scene. What emerged would pave the way for performance based music artists thereafter worldwide.
In 1993 the band caught the ear of Miles Copeland owner of IRS records, who had discovered and created careers for acts like REM, GoGo's, The Bangles, Concrete Blond and STING. Upon witnessing the power of the bands live show which included a music style which crossed over from hardcore punk into metal with industrial electronic elements, the band was offered a record contract and set out to record "120 Days of Genitorture". Since their 1993 IRS Records debut release of "120 Days of Genitorture", the band has been covered by many high profile media outlets, including features on VHI, Fox News, Hard Copy, HBO’s Real Sex and Playboy TV’s “SEXCETERA”. |
Extensive touring in the U.S., Europe and JAPAN have garnered them a devoted fan base worldwide, and lead singer Gen has even been the subject of a British release feature film “Preaching to the Perverted” a fictional account exploring her life and exploits.
Today GENITORTURERS have succeeded in making believers of even the stodgiest music critics who prior to witnessing them live had all but written them off as some kind of gimmick.... “Yes, they have their schtick......but can they play? Tony Mitchell's association with high-end fetish publishing now spans some 24 years, from the early days of Skin Two magazine to the launch this year of his fetish webzine The Fetishistas.
Part of the small group of media, music, art and fashion people that launched the original Skin Two club in London in 1983, Tony began contributing to the magazine in 1984.
